Liposuction can be an excellent option for our Miami patients who are looking to eliminate stubborn fat deposits. If you’re in good overall health, at or near your ideal bodyweight and following a doctor’s recommendations for diet and exercise, yet you can’t seem to get rid of certain areas of fat, liposuction might be for you.

Dr. Jon Harrell will be able to use his 24 years of experience as a board certified plastic surgeon to walk you through the procedure and answer any liposuction questions you might have.

One of the choices we’ll help you make is the type of liposuction procedure you’ll undergo. Dr. Harrell offers three variations on the procedure. All are safe, and Dr. Harrell is experienced with all of them, but they all offer certain advantages.

  • Tumescent liposuction: This procedure uses a local instead of a general anesthetic. Dr. Harrell will then inject an anesthetic solution into the treatment area and withdraw fatty tissues using a small tube known as a cannula.
  • Ultrasonic liposuction: This procedure is most often used on your upper abdomen, sides and back. Dr. Harrell will use ultrasound to liquefy fat in the treatment area and then remove it in the usual fashion.
  • SmartLipo™: In a SmartLipo procedure, Dr. Harrell makes one small incision in the treatment area, instead of multiple incisions. He then inserts a small, safe laser and uses that to liquefy the fat. It is minimally invasive and post-surgical recovery is usually quicker.

Dr. Harrell will discuss all of these options with you at your consultation and help you make the right decision for you.
