According to a survey published in the medical journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, a majority of people find a breast ratio of 45:55 to be “perfect.” This means that 45 percent of the breast tissue is above the nipple and 55 percent is below. 94 percent of the plastic surgeons who responded to this survey suggested that is the shape they choose to create when performing breast augmentation.

It wasn’t just plastic surgeons who found the 45:55 ratio to be ideal, however. This study included 1, 315 male and female respondents in a full range of ages, and found that 87 percent of women and 90 percent of men find this ratio represents the most attractive shape as well.

While consensus can be reached when showing survey respondents pictures, what is ideal on each woman is not so simple. Understanding this, board-certified Fort Lauderdale plastic surgeon Dr. Jon Harrell takes time to personalize each breast surgery he performs – working to ensure the new shape is complimentary to the entire frame and in line with the desires of the patient. What shape and size are right for you is best determined during your breast surgery consultation with Dr. Harrell.
