Bellafill®

Plastic Surgery in Weston, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Plantation and Davie, Florida

Bellafill is Now Bellafill | Weston | Miami | Ft. LauderdaleBellafill® is a unique product indicated for dermal filling to soften wrinkles in the central forehead and the folds that occasionally are located between the nose and lips. It can also be used in an 'off label' fashion to be placed in other areas of the face.

Bellafill® is unique among other fillers in common use today because it is considered semi-permanent. The filler itself is composed of microscopic spheres of a typically non-reactive synthetic substance that is mixed with collagen for easy injection into the areas to be corrected. A skin test for collagen sensitivity is necessary before using the substance since a small number of individuals may have an allergic reaction to the collagen portion of the filler. If the test for sensitivity is negative then the treatment may proceed.

Bellafill® Uses

Dr. Harrell has used Bellafill® as filler to correct nasolabial fold depressions, build up cheek bones and define the lower jaw and chin in a number of patients. It provides a long lasting result for those patients not wanting to undergo frequent and repeated treatment sessions.

Permanent vs. Temporary

In general most dermal fillers used for correction of facial aging today are temporary in their ability to correct loss of volume. Some may last longer than others but in general they are gradually metabolized by the body. The benefit of this is that if the patient doesn't really like the correction it will gradually revert back to normal. The temporary injection also allows the patient to feel comfortable with the result before committing to longer lasting or permanent filler. The downside is of course the need for repeated injections to maintain the correction.

With a permanent correction the need for repair injections is reduced or eliminated. However should there be any problem with the result of the injection or any reaction of the body towards the filler it can prove difficult to correct. Proper injection technique and a provider who has experience can virtually eliminate these risks but even then, a patient desiring a permanent correction needs to weigh the benefits against the potential disadvantages. Dr. Harrell has found Bellafill® to be excellent filler and has not experienced any adverse reactions in the many patients he has treated with this filler.
