However, liposuction is not a substitute for diet and exercise and should be looked at as an aid in improving one's shape - not the final solution.
Miami plastic surgeon Dr. Harrell is a very accomplished liposuctionist with a highly developed artistic sense. He has performed well over 2,000 liposuction procedures and is versed in tumescent liposuction, Ultrasonic liposuction and Smart Lipo (laser assisted liposuction). He understands what patients are looking for and does his utmost to ensure the best result possible.
During the consultation, Dr. Harrell will determine your goals and expectations and will examine you to determine your skin elasticity, bone and muscle anatomy and any other features that would have a bearing on the final result. Medical history, age and medications will be reviewed as well.
The procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis and may take anywhere from 1-2 hours to complete. After a brief period of recovery you will be released to home in the care of an adult caregiver. Most people experience little discomfort immediately after the procedure. Once at home you will have medication for pain and antibiotics to take as directed. Patients are encouraged to be up and moving the night of surgery but
to avoid any aerobic or strenuous activity for several weeks after the procedure. Most patients return to work within 3 to 5 days after the procedure.

You will be seen in the office for a number of routine appointments after the procedure to ensure that you are healing well. Patients are encouraged to call in to the office as necessary with any questions about their recovery.
Most patients can see an immediate improvement in shape but it will take several weeks for swelling to begin reducing significantly. Improvements in shape can be seen for up to 4-6 months as swelling gradually resolves. Dr. Harrell strongly encourages his patients to have lymphatic massage treatments after
liposuction to speed recovery and improve final results. This will be covered in the consultation.

Risks of Liposuction Surgery
Risks and complications are an inherent part of any surgery and liposuction is no different. Only healthy patients are usually considered for this procedure but occasionally patients are taken to the hospital for added insurance of safety if they have a condition that might affect the anesthetic such as asthma or diabetes. There is usually very little blood loss with liposuction. Likewise, infection is uncommon. There will be temporary
swelling and bruising and some temporary numbness of the skin as well. These temporary symptoms usually resolve within several weeks and gradually improve for a time thereafter. With Dr. Harrell's use of smaller cannulas and utilizing the 'Tumescent Technique,' combined with his extensive experience and artistic talent, patients have the best chance of having a result they can be proud of
and satisfied with.
